MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Barton men's tennis team (6-7, 1-1) earned its first Conference Carolinas victory of the season with a 4-3 triumph over Chowan (2-8, 1-2) Tuesday afternoon at the Rose Family Tennis Center.
The Bulldogs were led by sophomore Diego Agudelo (Bogata, COLOMBIA), who won at both first singles and first doubles.
Agudelo defeated Chowan's Mariano Yeh (Buenos Aires, ARGENTINA) by a 6-3, 6-3 score and teamed with sophomore Oscar Marmestedt (Akersberga, SWEDEN) to beat Yeh and Edmond Aynedjian (Nicosia, CYPRUS), 7-5. Agudelo is 5-1 in his last six matches at both singles and doubles (all at No. 1).
In addition, Barton freshman James Kelly (Mazabuka, ZAMBIA) earned a victory at No. 5 singles, 6-1 and 6-3 over the Hawks' Rafael D'Atri (Buenos Aires, ARGENTINA).
The Barton men's tennis continues its road stand with a trip to Central, S.C., for a league contest against Southern Wesleyan on Friday afternoon beginning at 3:00 p.m., while Chowan takes on North Greenville on Friday at 2:00 p.m., in Tigerville, S.C.
