Barton baseball suffers mid-week setback to UNC Pembroke at home

WILSON, N.C. – The Barton baseball team (17-10) fell to UNC Pembroke (11-11) by a 21-4 score on Tuesday afternoon at Nixon Field.

The Braves took control from the start – scoring four runs in both of the first and second innings – for an 8-0 advantage and never looked back.  UNC Pembroke was powered by four home runs as well including a leadoff home run from Luke Jackson (Kinston, N.C.).

Connor Grainger (Tabor City, N.C.) scored five times and hit a round-tripper as well while Kevon Perkins (Leland, N.C.) added a pinch-hit three-run home run for the Braves, who also took advantage of five Bulldogs errors.  In addition, UNC Pembroke's Hank Simpson (Holly Springs, N.C.) (2-0) was credited with the win.

For the Bulldogs, freshman outfielder Jacob Marcos (Miami, Fla.) hit a solo home run and finished with two hits while freshman Donovan Waitman (Valencia, Calif.) (2-1) was tagged with the setback.

Barton looks to bounce back on Friday against Belmont Abbey at 2:30 p.m., at home in a Conference Carolinas contest while UNC Pembroke takes on Anderson in Anderson, S.C., on Friday at 6:00 p.m.
