Barton women's lacrosse rolls to 18-3 road victory over North Carolina Wesleyan

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – The Barton women's lacrosse team (3-1) made it two straight victories with a convincing 18-3 road win over North Carolina Wesleyan (0-2) Thursday afternoon at Scalf Field.

The Bulldogs were dominant from the start – jumping out to a 13-0 advantage just 20 minutes into the match – with five goals courtesy of sophomore midfielder Kayli Ashenfelter (Stewartstown, Pa.).  Ashenfelter leads the team with 16 goals on the year.

Barton sophomore attacker Angelina Scarpa (Hicksville, N.Y.) added four goals and four assists as the Bulldogs led by a 14-2 advantage at halftime and never looked back.  Freshman midfielder Lydia Hulshizer (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) also got into the mix for the Bulldogs – totaling three scores and an assist – as Barton held a 30-10 advantage in shots taken in picking up its first road win of the year as well.

In goal, Barton sophomore Katherine Mattena (Salt Lake City, Utah) earned the win after making a pair of saves while North Carolina Wesleyan goalkeeper Millenia Crespo (Wake Forest, N.C.) suffered the loss despite stopping nine shots.  Grace Look (Havelock, N.C.) scored twice for the Bishops.

Barton faces St. Anselm at the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame on Tuesday, March 5, at 1:00 p.m., in Sparks, Md., while North Carolina Wesleyan takes on the University of Dallas on the road Sunday beginning at 1:00 p.m.
