Barton men's tennis picks up first victory of the season, 7-0 over Methodist

WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's tennis team (1-4) registered its first win of the season with a 7-0 triumph over Methodist (0-2) Friday afternoon at the Bulldogs Complex.

The Bulldogs had all six players – sophomores Diego Agudelo (Bogata, COLUMBIA), Oscar Marmestedt (Akersberga, SWEDEN), Hugh Ryder (Dartmouth, ENGLAND) and Alessandro Gerbino (Borlange, SWEDEN), junior Rory Gaydon (Darlington, ENGLAND) and freshman James Kelly (Mazabuka, ZAMBIA) – win at singles and doubles in the easy victory.

The duos of Gaydon and Kelly (No. 2 doubles) and Gerbino and Ryder (third doubles) pitched 6-0 shutouts over the Monarchs as well.

In addition, Bulldogs' Head Coach Lee Underwood notched the 600th win of his collegiate career as both a men's and women's mentor.  Underwood also had head coaching stops at Davis & Elkins, West Virginia Wesleyan and Edinboro.

The Barton men's tennis team next competes against Francis Marion on the road in Florence, S.C., on Saturday, February 23, at Noon while Methodist faces Washington (Md.) (10:00 a.m.) and College of Charleston (2:30 p.m.) in Chesterfield, Md., on Saturday, March 2.
