CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Barton Men's Cross Country Team hit the course for the first time in nearly three weeks Friday, competing in the Queen City Invite. The meet, hosted by Queens University of Charlotte, took place at McAlpine Creek Park.
Barton was led by freshman Deshawn Owens (Pikeville, N.C.). Owens, for the third time in as many meets this year, was the team's top runner as he crossed the finish line of the 8K course in 28:18. Owens took 133rd overall while redshirt freshman Nicholas Leek (Manahawkin, N.J.) finished 142nd overall with a time of 28:33 for the Bulldogs.
Overall, Liberty won after taking the first four places in the race which included the individual winner in Azaria Kirwa (23:54) and totaling a near-perfect 18 points. Embry-Riddle was second overall.
The Bulldogs will next compete on Friday, October 12, at the Pirate Invitational – hosted by East Carolina University – at Lake Kristi starting at 5:05 p.m., in Greenville, N.C.
