BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Barton College men's tennis team got back into the win column on Sunday with an 8-1 victory against Lees-McRae College in Conference Carolinas action at the LMC Tennis Courts.
Barton (4-11, 2-5) tallied a pair of convincing wins in doubles action while winning in straight-sets in four different singles matches. Lees-McRae (1-13, 0-8) had to try and make a comeback against the Bulldogs despite being short-handed on Sunday.
Junior Jesus Gil and freshman Martijn Eleveld paired together at the No. 1 position of doubles competition for Barton as the duo recorded an 8-2 victory against LMC's top pair of Gabriel Muniz and Sebastian Zuhr.
At the No. 2 position, sophomore Ermanno Galimberti and sophomore Rory Gaydon would add to the win total for Barton as the pair handed Matt Meluch and Rusty Batten an 8-1 defeat. Freshman Oscar Marmestedt and freshman Diego Agudelo would win their match at the No. 3 position by default to give BC a 3-0 lead heading to singles competition.
Agudelo won his matchup at the No. 2 position for BC against Zuhr, 6-3, 6-2, while freshman Alessandro Gerbino tallied a 6-2, 6-2 victory against the Bobcats' Meluch.
Freshman Hugh Ryder and freshman Martijn Eleveld were both victorious in each of their singles match at the No. 4 and No. 5 position for Barton. Ryder recorded a 6-1, 6-0 victory, while Eleveld tallied a 6-0, 6-0 win.
Lees-McRae notched their single point at the No. 1 position of singles play as Gaydon retired for BC after dropping the opening set 6-1 against Muniz. Lisandro Torresani recorded a victory by default at the No. 6 position for the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs host three matches in a row beginning on April 11 against Belmont Abbey to close the regular season.
