Barton rallies at home for a 6-3 victory against Edinboro in non-conference action

WILSON, N.C. – Despite trailing 2-1 in the match after doubles play, the Barton College Bulldogs rallied to win five singles matches and hand the Edinboro University Fighting Scots a 6-3 loss on Saturday in non-conference men's tennis action.

Barton (2-6) won its second match of the season at in non-conference play as the Bulldogs regrouped after a tough doubles competition. Edinboro (6-2) held a 3-2 lead in the match after Vitor Albanese won his No. 1 singles matchup but saw BC win each of the next two games to take a 4-3 lead.

The Fighting Scots took a 1-0 lead following an 8-1 victory from the duo of Albanese and Mateus Santos against Barton's Rory Gaydon and Oscar Marmestedt. The No. 3 matchup saw Christian Roettger and Mauricio Santos hand the Bulldogs tandem of Alessandro Gerbino and Hugh Ryder an 8-3 defeat to take a 2-0 advantage.

Junior Jesus Gil and freshman Diego Agudelo won a marathon matchup at the No. 2 spot against Daniel Fernandez and Kevin Mboko, 8-7 (4-0) to give Barton a point heading into singles competition.

Gerbino, a freshman for Barton, knotted the match 2-2 with a 6-0, 6-0 win at the No. 5 spot against Roettger. The Fighting Scots would answer by taking the lead back as Albanese defeated BC's top singles player in Gaydon, 6-0, 6-2.

The Bulldogs tied the match once again as Gil handed Mauricio Santos a 6-2, 6-2 defeat at the No. 4 position. Marmestedt, a freshman for the Bulldogs, would give BC a 4-3 lead with his 6-2, 6-3 victory at the No. 2 spot against Fernandez.

Agudelo and Ryder sealed the win for the Bulldogs by recording a pair of victories at the No. 3 and No. 6 position. Agudelo outlasted Mateus Santos 4-6, 7-5, 6-4 before Ryder tallied the final win for BC with a 2-6, 7-6 (9-4), 7-5 decision against Mboko.

Barton closes a three-game homestand on Tuesday with a matchup against new Conference Carolinas member Chowan University at 2 p.m.
