GREENVILLE, N.C. – The Barton men's cross country team took eighth place overall at East Carolina University's Pirate Invitational, which concluded Friday evening at Overton's Lake Kristi.
Duke, with five runners in the top nine overall, won with a team score of 26 points.
Barton was led by sophomore Alex Kelly (Newport News, Va.), who finished 67th overall with a time of 27:42 while freshman Deshawn Owens (Pikeville, N.C.) ran the 8K course in 28:05, good for a 71st-place finish. East Carolina's Nicholas Ciaccia was the overall winner after crossing the finish line in 24:34.
The Bulldogs will next compete in Sand Shark Invitational on Saturday, October 20, at Sgt. Jasper Park in Hardeeville, S.C. USC Beaufort is the host institution.
