SUMTER, S.C. – The Barton men's tennis team advanced to the Conference Carolinas Tournament Semifinals with a 5-1 win over King University on Friday afternoon at the Palmetto Tennis Center.
Barton, the tournament's No. 4 seed, were ahead 2-1 after the conclusion of doubles play. The No. 1 duo of freshman Julian Bosch and sophomore Jesus Gil won 8-4, while the No. 2 team of freshman Ermanno Galimberti and senior Yaxi Pintado secured an 8-2 victory.
King, the No. 5 seed in the tournament, won 8-7 (7-5) in the No. 3 doubles matchup for the team's only point of the match.
In singles play, Barton won three consecutive matches to reach the five-point plateau and end the contest. Freshman Rory Gaydon was a 6-1, 6-4 winner at No. 4 and Galimberti was a 4-6, 6-2, 6-0 victor in the No. 5 position. Gil helped the win for BC with a 7-5, 6-1 win at No. 6.
The Bulldogs will now advance to the tournament semifinals to take on rival and No. 1 seed University of Mount Olive tomorrow at 9 a.m.
