WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's tennis team picked up its 10th win of the season with a 6-3 victory over the visiting Tornado of King (Tenn.) University on Saturday.
King was ahead 2-1 after doubles play, winning in the No. 1 and No. 3 positions. Barton's No. 2 doubles team of seniors Jake McCartney and Yaxi Pintado won 8-1 in their match.
Barton collected its second point of the contest with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 5 by freshman Ermanno Galimberti, as Pintado tied the match at three points apiece with a 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 3.
The Tornado went back ahead with a win in the No. 1 position, but McCartney's 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 2 evened the score once again. Freshman Rory Gaydon clinched the match victory for Barton with a 7-6 (6-0), 6-4 win in the No. 5 position, while sophomore Jesus Gil won 6-7 (6-8), 6-1, 10-6 at No. 6 for his 10th singles victory of the year.
BC continues league play tomorrow with a contest against Lees-McRae College in Wilson at Noon. Before the contest begins, the program will honor its senior class with a ceremony.
