WILSON, N.C. – The Barton College men's tennis team won its seventh consecutive match with a 7-2 victory over visiting Shaw University on Sunday afternoon in Wilson.
The Bulldogs swept doubles play to take the early lead as Jake McCartney and Robby Taylor teamed together at No. 3 for BC's first point via an 8-2 win. The No. 1 team of Julian Bosch and Jesus Gil also won 8-2 for the fifth straight match, while Rory Gaydon and Yaxi Pintado combined to win 8-3 in the No. 2 slot.
In singles play, Barton clinched with wins at No.2 and No. 5 to seal the win. Bosch secured a point with a 6-1, 6-3 win at No.2, followed by a match-clinching 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 5 from fellow freshman Alexandre Alves.
Another first-year player, Ermanno Galimberti, won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 4, while freshman Hari Clarke collected his first collegiate win with a 6-2, 6-2 victory as the No. 6 singles player. Shaw's only two points of the match came via wins at No. 3 and No. 1 after each contest was forced to a super tiebreaker to decide the outcome.
Barton hosts West Virginia Wesleyan College tomorrow at 11 a.m. before returning to the courts on Wednesday, March 15 when the team hosts N.C. Wesleyan at 3 p.m.
