WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's tennis team collected its ninth straight win with a 6-3 victory over NCAA Division II opponent N.C. Wesleyan College on Wednesday afternoon at the Barton Tennis Complex.
In doubles play, N.C. Wesleyan picked up a point with a win at No.1 before Barton claimed two points at No. 2 and No. 3 for the early lead. The No. 2 tandem of seniors Jake McCartney and Yaxi Pintado won 8-2, before the duo of freshman Alexandre Alves and Ermanno Galimberti picked up an 8-5 win for BC's second point.
Sophomore Jesus Gil extended the BC lead with a 6-3, 6-0 win, his seventh straight, in the No. 5 singles position, as N.C. Wesleyan responded with a win at No. 4. Alves also earned a 7-6 (6-3), 6-1 win at No. 6 before a 2-6, 6-2, 6-1 win by freshman Julian Bosch, his eighth in a row, at No. 2 clinched the win for the Bulldogs.
The Battling Bishops' final point of the match came via a win at No. 3, as McCartney won in the No. 1 position 3-6, 7-6 (9-7), 10-3 in a super tiebreaker.
Barton gets back into Conference Carolinas play this weekend when it travels to Gaffney, S.C. for a match against Limestone College on Saturday, March 25 at Noon.
