BC men's cross country team runs to first-place finish against North Carolina Wesleyan

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – The Barton College men's cross country team defeated North Carolina Wesleyan College Tuesday at the NC Wesleyan and Barton Dual Meet, which was held in Rocky Mount, North Carolina.

BC recorded four of the top-five finishers in the 8K race, with senior Joel Lagat, competing for the first time this season, pacing the Bulldogs with a time of 27:48.16. Lagat was the first to cross the line and finished 21 seconds ahead of freshman Alex Kelly, who finished with a time of 28:09.38.

Freshman Evan Lee placed third for Barton with a mark of 28:45.76, while freshman Greg Gibbs placed fourth with a mark of 29:11.52.

NC Wesleyan's top-runner, Carlos Clinton, placed fifth with a time of 29:12.81. Tyler Bird finished in seventh for the Battling Bishops with a mark of 32:27.64.

Redshirt sophomore Leslie Jones raced to a sixth-place finish with a time of 31:18.06 for the Bulldogs.

Barton will return to action next weekend to take part in the Conference Carolinas Championship on October 21. The event will be held at Frank J. Liske Park in Concord, North Carolina.
