MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Head coach Josh Simmons earned his 100th career win and senior Ben Williams hit the first two home runs of his career as Barton defeated Pfeiffer 6-0 on Sunday afternoon.
Barton finishes the regular season with a 30-18 overall record and a 15-12 mark in Conference Carolinas play after winning the regular season finale. The win total is the team's highest since winning 30 games during the 2008-09 season.
Williams sent his first home run over the game over the right field fence in the second inning to give Barton the early 1-0 lead. Junior Andrew Webster brought a run across with an RBI double and Williams drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to give BC a 3-0 lead after three innings of play.
In the fourth inning, junior Blake Spangenberg hit his first career home run, a two-run shot down the left field line, before Williams ended the scoring with his second solo home run to right field in the eighth inning.
Junior starter Kerry Walker (5-3) threw just 71 pitches over seven shutout innings of work, allowing five hits and striking out two batters to earn the win.
Redshirt-sophomore Benjamin Brann struck out one and allowed a hit in one inning of relief, while senior Ricky Jernigan allowed one hit in one inning on the mound.
Williams was 2-for-3 at the plate with two home runs and three RBI, as Spangenberg was 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBI of his own. Webster turned in a 2-for-5 performance with a double and an RBI, while junior Tyler Garrett was 2-for-4 on offense.
Barton will now begin preparation for the Conference Carolinas Tournament where they are locked in as the No. 5 seed. The Bulldogs will play on Thursday, April 28 at 3 p.m in Burlington, N.C. Final seeding and tournament pairings will be decided follow the conclusion of league play tomorrow afternoon.
