BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Barton College men's tennis team secured its first shut out of the season and fourth Conference Carolinas victory with a 9-0 defeat of Lees-McRae College on Friday afternoon.
All three double's duos won to begin the day with the senior tandem of Daniel Radu and Nick Genest winning 8-0 at No. 3 singles to give BC the early three-point lead.
Junior Yaxi Pintado won his seventh straight match and improved his league record to 6-0 with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles, followed by a three-set win by Radu in the No. 6 singles slot to secure the match victory.
Junior Rafael Ruiz Velasco also won in three sets at No. 2 singles before fellow junior Jake McCartney secured his third straight singles win with a 6-4, 6-0 decision at No. 1. Freshman Jesus Gil won 8-6 at No. 5 for his first conference win as Genest wrapped up the match with an 8-7 (7-4) win in the No. 3 position with the match result already decided.
Barton travels to Bristol, Tenn. on Saturday afternoon for a match with league foe King University at 11 a.m.
