WILSON, N.C. – The Barton College men's tennis team evened its overall season record with a 6-3 win over Lenoir-Rhyne University on Sunday afternoon at the Barton Tennis Complex.
Lenoir-Rhyne won the first doubles match of the day, 8-6, for the early lead before Barton earned victories at No. 2 and No. 3. The duo of Jake McCartney and Yaxi Pintado won 8-3 in the No. 2 spot, while Nick Genest and Daniel Radu teamed together for an 8-6 victory at No. 3.
In singles play, Radu made quick work of his matchup at No. 6 singles with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Lenoir-Rhyne's Matthew Ledford. Senior Rafael Ruiz Velasco won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 singles followed by a 6-4, 6-4 win for McCartney at No. 1 singles to give Barton the match win.
Lenoir-Rhyne earned its final point with a win at No.4 singles before Pintado defeated Filip Dobrosavljevic 6-0 6-2 at No. 5 singles. Genest won his No. 3 singles matchup with a 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 (13-11) third-set super tiebreaker win.
Barton hosts Bluefield College on Monday, March 7 for its third consecutive non-conference match in Wilson beginning at 1 p.m.
