RALEIGH, N.C. – The Barton College men's tennis team dropped its second straight non-conference match with a 5-4 loss to Shaw University on Friday afternoon.
The Bulldogs led 2-1 after doubles play as the No. 1 doubles tandem of Rafael Ruiz Velasco and Jesus Gil earned an 8-5 victory followed by an 8-3 win by the duo of Jake McCartney and Yaxi Pintado at No. 2 doubles.
In singles play, Pintado defeated Shaw's Javier Saez in straight sets at No. 4 singles as Ruiz Velasco earned a 7-5, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles over Daniel Ac to give Barton four points in the match. However, the Bears collected wins in the final four singles matchups, including two three-set victories at No. 2 and No. 5 singles, to seal the win.
Barton hosts Lenoir-Rhyne University of the South Atlantic Conference on Sunday, March 6 for a non-conference match in Wilson beginning at 1 p.m.
