WILSON, N.C. – The Barton College men's tennis team suffered its second Conference Carolinas loss of the season with a 5-4 defeat at the hands of No. 43 University of Mount Olive on Tuesday afternoon.
The Bulldogs led 2-1 after doubles play following wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions. The No. 1 duo of Jesus Gil and Rafael Ruiz Velasco won 8-3 as Jake McCartney and Yaxi Pintado gave BC its second point with an 8-5 win the No. 2 spot.
Mount Olive tied the match with a win at No. 6 singles before Pintado cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 5 to put the Bulldogs back on top.
The match was once again tied with a Trojan win at No. 4 until Barton went ahead by one point with a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles by McCartney. Mount Olive won at both No. 3 and No. 2 singles play to secure the one-point match victory.
Barton travels to Misenheimer, N.C. on Saturday afternoon for a match with league foe Pfeiffer University.
