WILSON, N.C. – The Barton College men's tennis team won its third straight match on Monday, blanking visiting Bluefield College 9-0 at the Barton Tennis Complex.
The Bulldogs won every set over the Virginia-based NAIA program in improving their record to 5-2 on the year. The Rams dropped to 0-3 on the season.
Bluefield's No. 1, Marcel Aramberri, challenged Jake McCartney in the top slot before falling 6-3, 7-5, but Barton lost just five total games in the other five singles matches. One of the victors for the Bulldogs was freshman Robert Taylor, who recorded his first collegiate singles win by downing Luke Lilly, 6-1, 6-2, in the No. 6 slot.
McCartney and his doubles partner, Rafael Ruiz Velasco, held off Aramberri and Lochlan Kitchen, 8-5, but the Rams won just two games in the remaining two doubles matches.
Barton will take the remainder of spring break off before returning to action on Thursday, March 19, against William Peace University.
