WILSON, N.C. – The Barton College men's tennis team kicked off its 2015 Conference Carolinas schedule this weekend with a pair of 8-1 victories at the Barton Tennis Complex.
The Bulldogs, now 4-2 overall and 2-0 in the league, defeated Lees-McRae College (2-7, 0-1) on Friday and downed King University (3-8, 2-3) on Saturday.
Jake McCartney, Rafael Ruiz Velasco and Nick Genest all produced a perfect 4-0 mark in singles and doubles over the two matches.
Barton's one loss against the Bobcats came in doubles, but the Bulldogs swept all six singles matches in straight sets to claim the victory.
Against King, the Bulldogs went to single play leading 3-0 after a pair of on-court victories and a win by default. The Tornado's Moritz Poswait was able to outlast BC's Max Leppert in a dramatic battle at No. 3 singles that saw both of the first two sets go to tiebreakers. However, Barton easily won the remainder of its matches, giving up just six total games.
The Bulldogs will return to action on Monday, hosting Bluefield College in a 2 p.m. contest.
