BC women's tennis coasts to 9-0 road win

by Kevin Buczek

CENTRAL, S.C.-Barton College won 96 of 98 games played in dismantling host Southern Wesleyan College, 9-0, in non-conference women's tennis action at Nettles Park Tuesday.

The Lady Bulldogs only lost one doubles game and one singles game to improve to 7-3 overall. The Warriors remained winless on the season at 0-7.

Freshman Ananya Sarkar,  junior Alicia Lasry, junior Meredith Pruden, senior Caroline Fischer and senior Kristy Lievense all had perfect 6-0, 6-0 performances in singles from No. 2-6 in the lineup, respectively. Sophomore Smiljana Kljajic needed just one more set atop the lineup in winning 6-0, 6-1.

Kljajic (6-2) and Pruden lead the Lady Bulldogs with six singles wins apiece. Fischer (5-2) follows closely behind with five triumphs.

The weekday match over Barton's spring break started at 10:30 a.m., in temperatures that never left the 30s. The Lady Bulldogs were able to overcome the frigid conditions early with a sweep of doubles. Kljajic-Sarkar (4-2) and Fischer-Kelly (1-1) both tallied flawless 8-0 wins in the first and third positions. Pruden-Lasry (3-2) added an easy 8-1 conquest in the middle draw.

Barton will next play at UNC Pembroke on Thursday, March 13 at 2:30 p.m.
