Barton hosts Belmont Abbey Wednesday

WILSON, N.C.-Barton College will try and end a three-match losing streak and remain over .500 on the season when the Bulldogs entertain Belmont Abbey College in Conference Carolinas men's soccer action Wednesday evening at 7 p.m.

The Bulldogs have dropped three consecutive matches after losing to No. 6 nationally ranked Limestone College on Saturday (6-1). Barton is 5-4 overall and 1-2 in the league but boasts a 3-1 mark at home.

Senior Erik Pajunk scored his team-high sixth goal in Saturday's road loss to the Saints. Pajunk paces the Bulldogs with six goals, three assists and 15 points.

Other top point producers for Barton include sophomore Alex David (4G, 1A, 9P), senior Dante De Luca (4G, 8P), junior Kevin Strassburger (2G, 3A, 7P), senior Jonathan Rembecki (1G, 2A, 4P) and junior Marcus Strath (1G, 2A, 4P).

Freshman Jens Madsen Hordvik (3-2, 2.10 GAA, .667 SV%) and junior Derek Collins (2-2, 1.32 GAA, .688 SV%) have split time in net for the Bulldogs.

Barton is not ranked regionally or nationally for the first time this season when the new polls were released on Tuesday.

The Bulldogs won a pair of tilts against Belmont Abbey last season defeating the Crusaders 3-1 in the regular season and 2-0 in the quarterfinals of the Conference Carolinas Tournament. De Luca scored three of BC's five goals.

The Crusaders are 2-5-2 overall and 1-3 in the conference and are coming off consecutive league losses to King University (3-1) and Southern Wesleyan University (2-0). Belmont Abbey has been better on the road (2-3-2) than at home (0-2).

Belmont Abbey has only scored 10 goals in nine games. The Crusaders have spread out its scoring with nine different goal scorers. Junior Declan McQuillan is the only Abbey player with two tallies.

Juniors Breck Collins and Jordan Gardner along with sophomores Clay Dimick and Nick Fuller all have one goal and one assist on the season to trail McQuillan's team-high five points by two apiece.

A trio of freshman netminders have been between the pipes for the Crusaders this season including Mickey Raine (0-2, 2.39 GAA, .625 SV%), Alex Trujillo (1-0-1, 1.17 GAA, .812 SV%) and Luke Whelan (0-2, 2.20 GAA, .700 SV%).

Belmont Abbey had not lost to Barton for over a decade (2002-2012) but has now dropped two straight to the Bulldogs.
