PLEASANT GARDEN, N.C.-Senior Lauren Andreola was the fastest NCAA Division II runner in the women's collegiate 5k to lead Barton College to the DII title in the 2014 Hagan Stone Cross Country Classic Saturday morning.
The Lady Bulldogs finished fifth overall out of 14 institutions with NCAA Division I Virginia Commonwealth University capturing the overall championship.
Seven Barton runners crossed the finish line with their fastest 5,000-kilometer times of the season including Andreola (20:14/13th), senior Angelica Del Real (20:31/20th), senior Cimone Barbour (20:39/24th), senior Andrea Roca (20:51/29th), junior Lauren Yoho (21:52/62nd), senior Tikycia Young (22:52/78th) and junior Eva Amo-Mensah (23:10/82nd). Sophomore Heather Cuddington (21:38/54th) provided BC's fifth counting team score that was just two seconds off her season-best time.
Andreola (1st), Del Real (3rd), Barbour (4th), Roca (6th), Cuddington (8th) and Yoho (10th) all placed in the top-10 in the DII portion of the race.
VCU had the top four individual finishers with Emily Dyke posting a winning time of 18:38 out of 135 harriers.
Barton next competes in the Falcon Classic hosted by the University of Montevallo in Alabama on Saturday, Oct. 18.
