WILSON, N.C.-Senior Lindsey Frederick was the only Barton College player to take a set from 41st ITA nationally ranked Erskine College in a 9-0 loss Friday afternoon at the Barton Tennis Complex.
The Flying Fleet won for a fourth consecutive time to improve to 4-2 overall and remain perfect in league play at 3-0. The Lady Bulldogs had their five-match win streak snapped slipping to 6-3 and 3-1.
The current eight-time reigning Conference Carolinas Tournament champions jumped out to a 3-0 lead after doubles by just losing five games over that span.
Junior Corin Hallman and freshman Sarah McDonald provided the Fleet with quick wins at No. 1 and No. 6 singles, respectively, to clinch the match. Hallman – a First Team All-Conference honoree last year – is ranked 17th in the Southeast Region.
Frederick provided the home crowd the most entertaining match by outlasting Third Team All-Conference selection Abbey O'Reilly in a first set tiebreaker. O'Reilly did manage to rally on Frederick for the 6-7 (4), 6-4, 12-10 win at No. 3 to complete the match sweep for the seventh-regionally ranked Flying Fleet.
Barton will try and get back into the win column with a league road showdown at Coker College in Hartsville, S.C., on Monday at 2:30 p.m.
