WINGATE, N.C.-The sophomore duo of Lauren Andreola and Cimone Barbour both posted top-20 finishes for the Lady Bulldogs as Barton College finished in fourth place out of 10 institutions in the 2012 Bulldog Stampede hosted by Wingate University on Saturday morning.
Andreola, who was named Conference Carolinas Runner of the Week after her last race, posted another outstanding effect by placing ninth in the Bulldog Stampede. Andreola blazed the 5,000-meter course in 20 minutes and 32 seconds and was less and 90 seconds off the racing winning time to earn her second straight top-10 result.
Barbour was just 27 seconds behind Andreola in 19th position with a time of 20:59 to place 19th.
All five Barton participants finished in the upper half of the 82 harrier event. Senior Alexa Tovella paced a wave of three Lady Bulldogs across the finish line in a 17-second wave when she completed the endurance race in 21:11 for 26th place. Freshman Lauren Yoho and sophomore Andrea Roca followed in 29th and 30th place, respectively, with times of 21:31 and 21:39.
The Royal Blue and White finished fourth overall with 108 points. Milligan College – ranked No. 14 nationally at the NAIA level – won the team competition with 28 points. Host Wingate grabbed runner-up honors with 67 points and Winston-Salem State University held off BC with 91 points for third.
The Lady Bulldogs did defeat four Southeast Region teams including the other two Conference Carolinas institutions that competed in the meet (Pfeiffer University and Belmont Abbey College).
