by Kevin Buczek

WILSON, N.C.-The Barton College women's tennis team picked up a pair of wins on back-to-back days defeating Conference Carolinas foe Converse College on Sunday in Spartanburg, S.C., before returning home for a non-conference win against Lenoir-Rhyne College on Monday. The Lady Bulldogs won both matches 8-1.

Barton has won five of its last six matches to move over .500 at 6-5 overall and 2-1 in league play.

The Lady Bulldogs were prevented a shutout in doubles play against the Valkyries (2-6 Overall, 0-5 Conf.) with an extended 9-7 loss in the middle pairs match. Barton dominated play in singles winning all four matches that were played in straight sets. Converse had to forfeit the fifth and sixth positions.

Barton swept doubles competition against the Bears on Monday. Sophomore Taylor Futrell was prevented a win in her first collegiate dual match in three sets at No. 5 singles as LR avoided the shutout but the Lady Bulldogs once again dominated the top four singles positions en route to dominating win.

Junior Lindsey Frederick and Mika Deane continued their strong play as the top doubles tandem in the Lady Bulldogs lineup with 8-2 and 8-4 wins. Frederick-Deane have won six consecutive doubles matches and have a season record of 9-2.

Deane and Alicia Lasry highlighted Barton's play in singles winning in straight sets on both days. Deane moved over .500 on the season at 6-5 in the top slot.
