GAFFNEY, S.C.-Freshman hitter Zach McCalla drilled a match-high eight kills for Barton College in a 25-18, 25-14, 25-14 Conference Carolinas men's volleyball loss at Limestone College on Saturday in the Timken Center.
The Saints improved to 12-8 overall and 6-2 in the league. The first year Bulldogs remained winless on the year at 0-14 and 0-7.
Barton took the court for the first time in nearly a month (Feb. 26) and was outplayed by a Limestone squad that has won four consecutive conference matches.
McCalla notched his match-high eight kills on 27 swings. Sophomore Alx Draughan added six spikes on 18 attempts and freshman Jordan Robison had four kills.
Barton finished with a level hitting percentage with 24 kills and 24 errors. Limestone did much better hitting at a .315 rate.
Four consecutive Bulldogs points including a pair of McCalla kills pulled the visitors to within one, 14-13, midway through the first set but the Saints followed with an 8-2 run to pull away.
BC's only leads of the match came at 1-0 in both the second and third sets before Limestone completed the sweep with a pair of 11-point wins in each of the last two frames.
Freshman Chandler Thomas set up the Bulldogs attack with a match-high 18 assists.
Draughan led the defensive efforts by the Royal Blue and White with five digs and two blocks. Thomas added five digs. McCalla had Barton's only service ace.
Barton next visits conference foe Lees-McRae College in Banner Elk, N.C., on Sunday at 3 p.m.
