PEMBROKE, N.C.-Junior Lindsey Frederick continued her strong play in 2012 with singles and doubles for visiting Barton College in a 7-2 Southeast Region loss to the University of North Carolina at Pembroke on Wednesday afternoon at the UNCP Varsity Tennis Courts.
The Lady Braves (3-4) and Lady Bulldogs (4-5) are both one game under .500 after the match.
Frederick teamed up with sophomore Mika Deane to win the top doubles match 8-5. Sophomore Caroline Fischer and freshman Alicia Lasry were denied a second doubles win for Barton with a 9-8 (7-2) tiebreaker loss in the middle pairs match as UNCP led 2-1 heading into the six singles matches.
Frederick and Deane boast a 7-2 record at the top doubles position in the Lady Bulldogs lineup.
Frederick then won her fourth consecutive singles match in the second singles slot. Frederick was swept in the first game 6-0 but rallied to tie the match with a 6-4 second set win. After UNCP secured the team victory with Frederick leading 1-0 in the final set she completed the comeback with a 10-8 superset victory.
The Goldsboro, N.C., native boasts a 6-1 singles record.
Other BC highlights including a marathon first set tiebreaker for Deane in the marque singles match that she eventually lost 14-12. All five Braves wins in singles play were in straight sets.
Barton returns to Conference Carolinas play with a pair of road matches this weekend at Converse College on Friday and Limestone College on Saturday.
