CHARLOTTE, N.C.-The Barton College women's tennis team swept singles play in straight sets en route to an 8-1 road victory at Johnson C. Smith University at the Coleman/Cuthbertson Tennis Courts on Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Bulldogs third consecutive victory evened Barton's overall record to 4-4 on the season. The Golden Bulls remained winless on the season at 0-6.
An extended match 9-8 win by JCSU at No. 2 doubles prevented BC's second straight 9-0 sweep.
Barton took a 2-1 lead into singles play with an 8-1 and 8-2 wins at the first and third doubles position.
Freshman Alicia Lasry highlighted singles play for the Lady Bulldogs by not losing a single game in the third slot of the lineup winning by matching 6-0 scores.
Junior Lindsey Frederick improved to a team-best 5-1 overall with a 6-1, 6-3 conquest at No. 2. Lasry and Frederick each have won three consecutive singles matches.
Sophomore Mika Deane evened her overall record to 4-4 with a 6-0, 6-2 win in the top flight. Senior Lindsay Toth gutted out a first set 7-5 win before closing out her win at No. 4 with a dominating 6-0 second set. Sophomores No. 5 Francesca Del Pozo and No. 6 Kristy Lievense rounded the Lady Bulldogs wins in singles with 6-3, 6-4 and 6-4, 6-0 victories, respectively.
Barton will next visit UNC Pembroke on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
