ELON, N.C. – The Barton men's and women's indoor track and field teams had an impressive showing at the Phoenix Invitational hosted by Elon College on Friday at the Jerry and Jeanne Robertson Track and Field Complex.
The Bulldogs were led by junior
Aniya Heckstall (Scotland Neck, N.C.), who finished first in both the women's 100-meter (12.06) and 200-meter (a personal-best 24.20) dashes. In addition, Barton freshman
Darion Drye, Jr. (Kannapolis, N.C.) won the men's discus throw with a new school mark (158'8"). Drye, Jr., also had a fifth-place finish in the men's shot put (39'8").
Barton junior
Keiarra Tutt (Bayboro, N.C.) finished right behind Heckstall in the women's 200-meter dash with a time of 24.69 seconds.
The Bulldogs also had a second-place finish in the men's 100-meter dash (10.69) courtesy of sophomore
Jaidan Lee (Charlotte, N.C.) and the men's triple jump (45'10") thanks to freshman
Zaccheaus Carmack (Plymouth, N.C.). Lee took fifth place in the men's 200-meter dash (21.61) as well.
Rounding out fifth-place finishes for Barton include freshman
Nolan Gamwell (Stantonsburg, N.C.) in the men's 2,000-meter steeplechase (6:58.47) and freshman
William Leverett (Winston-Salem, N.C.) in the men's triple jump (43'0").
Barton next competes at the Virginia Beach Spring Break Invitational on Saturday, April 22, at the Betty S. Rogers Track and Field Center in Virginia Beach, Va.
