Barton bowling competes at the 2024 Great Midwest Conference Carolinas Championships

GASTONIA, N.C. –  The Barton men's and women's bowling teams competed this past weekend at the 2024 Great Midwest Conference Carolinas Championship at Liberty Lanes.

On the women's side, Belmont Abbey topped Walsh by a 815-786 score in the traditional play before Walsh came back to win the baker total pinfall, 1,007-869.  However, the Crusaders bounced back to take the if-necessary baker match play, 4-0, to earn the crown.

The Bulldogs, seeded eighth, faced off against top-seeded Walsh before falling in five games.  Barton won the first contest by a 206-124 before losing the next four contests:  165-151, 200-145, 157-114 and 149-126.

In the elimination round, Barton took on Ursuline but came up short by a 4-1 score as well.

The qualifiers for the Bulldogs were freshman Autum Burrus (Washington, N.C.) (110 points), sophomore Michelle Flores-Orea (Nashville, N.C.) (107) and freshmen Addison Williams (Durham, N.C.) (109), Mary McMillion (Greenville, N.C.) (145) and Savanna Ramirez (Pink Hill, N.C.) (160).

In the men's competition, Belmont Abbey claimed their second straight league championship.  The Crusaders came back from consolation round to defeat Kentucky Wesleyan, 2-0, in the mega-match and 4-1 in the if-necessary match to take the title.  Belmont Abbey won the traditional match (958-952) and baker total pinfall (1,093-923).

Barton, seeded sixth, battled top-seeded Kentucky Wesleyan to a six-game defeat.  The Bulldogs took the second (157-147) and fourth (181-168) before succumbing to the Panthers.  In the consolation round, Barton took the first game against Thomas More (213-172) before suffering four straight setbacks.

Qualifying for the Bulldogs' men's squad include freshman Geritt Coombs (Louisburg, N.C.) (147 points), junior Christopher Bridges (Durham, N.C.) (152), freshmen Raymond Hardee (Clayton, N.C.), (183), Dwight Parrish (Fayetteville, N.C.) (154) and Braeden Barnes (Elm City, N.C.).
