MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The Barton men's and women's outdoor track and field teams competed at the ninth annual Adidas Trojan Challenge this past Saturday at the Ray MacDonald, Sr., Sports Complex on the campus of the University of Mount Olive.
Barton sophomore
Brandon Waller (Cabot, Ark.) won the men's 800-meter run with a time of 1:54.19 while freshman
Ja'Qunn Cannon (Raleigh, N.C.) was runner-up in the men's 400-meter dash (49.25).
In the men's 1,500-meter run, freshman
Hayden Tyndall (Pink Hill, N.C.) and graduate student
Jacob Oliver (Winchester, Va.) finished sixth (4:25.73) and seventh (4:30.04), respectively, for the Bulldogs.
Barton senior
Keiarra Tutt (Bayboro, N.C.) placed second overall in the women's 400-meter run (57.56) while sophomore
Shaliah Jones' (Greenville, N.C.) time of 12.13 seconds was good for third place overall.
The Bulldogs also received a third-place finish in the women's high jump (4'9") courtesy of junior
Myasia Matthews (Sandusky, Ohio) and the Barton women's 400-meter relay team was runner-up with a time of 47.68 seconds. Matthews also took fifth in the women's 100-meter hurdles (14.89).
In the distance events, Barton freshman
Lena Warren (Clayton, N.C.) took second overall in the women's 5,000-meter run (20:26.74).
Barton returns to competition on Friday, April 3, when the Bulldogs travel to Charlotte, N.C., to participate in the Johnson C. Smith Collegiate Invitational.
