VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Barton men's and women's indoor track and field teams had an impressive showing at the Richard Drake Invitational hosted by Virginia Wesleyan University at the Virginia Beach Sports Complex.
Barton freshman
Jaidan Lee (Charlotte, N.C.) won the men's 60-meter dash with a time of 6.90 seconds while taking second place in the men's 200-meter dash (22.41). The Bulldogs also had the fourth and fifth-place finishers in the men's 200-meter dash in senior
Jacquez Durham (Clayton, N.C.) and junior
Justin Copper (High Point, N.C.) with times of 22:41 and 22.46 seconds, respectively.
Copper also took fifth in the men's 400-meter dash (50.32 seconds) while freshman
Jacob Oliver (Winchester, Va.) was runner-up in the men's 5,000-meter run (16:15.46).
Other top five finishers on the men's side for Barton were senior
Lee Thomas (Clayton, N.C.) in the 5K (16:51.30) and senior
Braxton Fontaine (Rumford, R.I.) in the high jump (6'2").
In the women's competition, the Bulldogs were led by sophomore
Keiarra Tutt (Pamlico, N.C.) with second-place finishes in the 200-meter (25.59) and 400-meter (58.84) dashes. Barton sophomore
Aniya Heckstall (Scotland Neck, N.C.) also took fourth overall in the women's 200-meter dash with a time of 26.07.
Rounding out the top five for the Bulldogs on the women's side was freshman
Erica McClary (Salisbury, N.C.) with a five-place finish in the women's 60-meter dash (8.21 seconds).
The Barton indoor track and field teams will next compete in the 2024 Conference Carolinas Championships on Sunday, February 18, and Sunday, February 19, at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C.
