WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Barton men's and women's track and field teams got their respective indoor 2024-25 seasons off to a strong start at the Winston-Salem College Kick-Off Saturday at the JDL Fast Track.
On the women's side, the Bulldogs were led by junior
Aniya Heckstall (Scotland Neck, N.C.). Heckstall finished second in the 200-meter dash (25.63) and third in the 60-meter dash (7.62). Heckstall's time in the 60-meter dash is a new school record and was a national provisional qualifying time.
In addition, Barton junior
Keiarra Tutt (Bayboro, N.C.) took third in the women's 200-meter dash with a time of 25.73. Heckstall (60-meter and 200-meter dash) and Tutt (200-meter dash) have both qualified for the Conference Carolinas Championships in February.
In the men's competition, Barton freshman
Brandon Waller (Cabot, Ark.) won the 800-meter run in a school-record 1:56.29 while freshman
Cameron Walker (Thomasville, N.C.) took third place in the 200-meter dash (22.80). Barton senior
Justin Copper (High Point, N.C.) took seventh in the men's 400-meter dash (51.45) while freshman
Zaccheaus Carmack (Plymouth, N.C.) placed eighth in the men's triple jump (44'7") to round out the top eight for the Bulldogs.
Carmack qualified for the league championship in the men's triple jump as well.
The Barton men's and women's indoor track and field teams return to Winston-Salem, N.C., on Saturday, January 18, to compete in the Mondo College Invitational at the JDL Fast Track.
