RALEIGH, N.C. – The Barton men's and women's swimming teams finished second and fourth, respectively, at the 2023 Pacer Invite, hosted by William Peace University, which wrapped up Saturday at the Pullen Aquatic Center.
The men's squad finished runner-up with 1,478.5 points while Roanoke (1,563.5) took home top honors. On the women's side, Barton totaled 962 points while UNC Pembroke (1,821) was the No. 1 squad for the weekend.
The Bulldogs' men's squad took second place behind the strength of a pair of first-place finishes in the 200-yard medley (1:34.13) and 800-yard freestyle (6:58.73) relays.
The medley relay consisted of freshman
Ryan Mcanallen (Saint Augustine, Fla.) and sophomores
Natan Alexandre (Sao Paulo, BRAZIL),
Evan Carlson (Cary, N.C.) and
Ethan Robinson (Dacula, Ga.) while the freestyle relay quartet included Robinson and seniors
Ethan Maddrey (Sims, N.C.) and
Roman Martinez (Willow Spring, N.C.) and junior
Owen Rasinske (Hillsborough, N.C.) for the Bulldogs.
Mcanallen won the men's 200-yard backstroke (1:52.88) while Alexandre touched the wall first in the men's 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:07.91 for Barton as well.
Barton also had four individual men's runner-up finishes: Mcanallen in the 200-yard individual medley (1:55.98), Maddrey in the 400-yard freestyle (1:42.59), Carlson in the 200-yard butterfly (1:57.56) and Alexandre in the 100-yard breaststroke (56.34). The men's 400-yard medley (3:26.20) and the 200-yard freestyle (1:24.93) relays also placed second for the Bulldogs.
On the women's side, senior
Megan Schueller took fourth place in the 50-yard freestyle (24.22) and 100-yard breaststroke (1:07.46) events while the Bulldogs' 200-yard freestyle relay – consisting of Schueller, senior
Alexis Lakey (Silver Spring, Md.), junior
Jacqueline Fischetti (Raleigh, N.C.) and sophomore
Cali Younker (Blaine, Tenn.) – placed fourth as well with a time of 1:40.27.
Barton swimming next travels to Virginia Beach, Va., to take on Virginia Wesleyan in a dual meet on Friday, January 12, at 1:00 p.m.
