WILSON, N.C. – Barton College has announced its 2022 induction class for its Athletic Hall of Fame, which includes
Vonda (Williams) Blue,
Amy (Morris) Ferguson,
Bobby Johnston (posthumously),
Scott Lamond,
Steve Lowery and
Jessica McFadden. The induction ceremony and banquet will take place on Friday, October 14, on campus.
Blue (Barton, 1991) lettered four years as a member of the Bulldogs' women's basketball team (1987-91) and was a two-time All-Carolinas Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honoree (1989-90 and 1990-91). In 1990-91, Blue helped lead the Bulldogs to a 22-6 record, the CIAC Championship, and a berth in the NAIA District 26 Semifinals. Blue finished with 1,419 career points and was named the 1991 league tournament most valuable player.
Ferguson (Barton, 1999), a four-year letterwinner on the Barton women's soccer team (1995-98), is the school's all-time leader in goals scored (61) and total points (151). Ferguson was a three-time All-Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference selection including a first-team honoree in 1996 and 1998. Ferguson is one of two Barton players named to the All-Time All-CVAC Women's Soccer Team.
Johnston (Atlantic Christian, 1970) played two seasons on the Bulldogs' baseball team where he earned All-NAIA District 29 honors both years and was an NAIA honorable mention All-American in 1970. Johnston batted .397 in 1969 and .369 in 1970. In addition, Johnston was an outstanding pitcher, posting a 2.90 earned run average in 112 innings of work over two seasons. Johnston was selected by the San Diego Padres in the 1971 winter draft.
Lamond (Barton, 2000) was a four-year letterwinner on the Bulldogs' men's golf team (1997-00) and earned All-CVAC honors three times (1997-99). Lamond nearly won the 1999 CVAC Championship but lost in a playoff and led the Bulldogs to their first of 14 straight NCAA Regional appearances in 2000. Lamond had a 75.0 stroke average over his four seasons and was a three-time Academic All-Conference selection.
Lowery (Barton, 1991) played four seasons as a member of the Atlantic Christian/Barton baseball team (1988-91) and was one of the team's top baserunners. Lowery earned All-CIAC accolades twice (1990 and 1991) and was named the team's Most Valuable Player as a senior in 1991. Lowery batted over .300 for his career and stole 100 bases. As a freshman in 1988, Lowery stole 52 of 53 bases and led the Bulldogs to 35 victories, the NAIA District 26 Regular Season Championship, and a berth in the district finals.
McFadden (Barton, 2011) was a four-time All-Conference Carolinas First-Team honoree (2007-11) and the 2011 league player of the year as a member of the Barton softball team. McFadden was also a three-time All-Southeast Region pick and earned NCAA Division II Second-Team All-American honors in 2011 after batting .484 with 44 runs scored and 44 stolen bases for the year.
McFadden is the school's all-time leader in runs scored (136), total hits (231) and stolen bases (127) and set two NCAA Division II records in 2011: most steals in a game (eight) and consecutive game hits (27). McFadden was the team MVP twice (2008 and 2011) and was the 2008 Barton College Female Athlete of the Year. McFadden also lettered two years on the women's cross country team.
