WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's tennis team (6-3) defeated Edinboro (Pa.) (1-7) by a 7-0 score Saturday morning at the Bulldogs complex. Barton has now won three straight matches.
Barton prevailed rather easily with four players – senior Marissa Stevenson (Kirk Michael, ISLE OF MAN), juniors Eimear Maher (Newbridge, IRELAND) and Claudia Capellades (Barcelona, SPAIN) and sophomore Isabella Caballero (La Paz, BOLIVIA) – taking victories at both singles and doubles' play for the Bulldogs.
Stevenson and Maher improved to 6-1 on the season at first doubles with a 6-0 triumph over the Fighting Scots' Lily Ann Schmidt (Montabaur, GERMANY) and Morgan Bender (Hermitage, Pa.).
Barton opens Conference Carolinas play on Thursday when the Bulldogs host Belmont Abbey beginning at 2:00 p.m., while Edinboro faces West Liberty on Sunday in Hilton Head Island, S.C., at 3:15 p.m.
