Barton women's lacrosse downs Nyack, 17-6, behind strong second half

WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's lacrosse team (5-4) snapped a two-game losing streak with a strong 17-6 victory over Nyack (N.Y.) (0-1) Tuesday evening at the Electric Supply Company Field.

Barton junior attacker Angelina Scarpa (Hicksville, N.Y.) finished with seven total points – four goals and three assists – while sophomore attacker Ashley Teilborg (Sneads Ferry, N.C.) added three scores in the victory.

Scarpa continues to lead the team in goals (20), assists (16) and total points (36) as the Bulldogs reeled off eight straight scores at one point after holding a 6-5 advantage late in the first half to break the contest open.  Barton also held decisive edges in both shots taken (37-16) and ground balls (35-17) in the win.

In goal, Barton junior Katherine Mattena (Salt Lake City, Utah) made five saves on her way to the win while Nyack's Maggie Slavin (Middle Township, N.J.) suffered the loss despite four stops.  The Warriors were led by Jasmyne Moore (Rising Sun, Md.) with three goals in the losing effort.

Barton remains at home to take on Lewis (Ill.) on Thursday night at 6:00 p.m., while Nyack plays at St. Andrews in Laurinburg, N.C., on Thursday.
