FLORENCE, S.C. – The Barton women's tennis team (2-0) downed Lander (0-1) by a 4-3 score on the opening day Friday of the 2020 City of Florence Invitational at the Dr. Eddie Floyd Center.
Barton was led by a trio of players – senior Marissa Stevenson (Kirk Michael, ISLE OF MAN), junior Eimear Maher (Newbridge, IRELAND) and sophomore Isabella Caballero (La Paz, BRAZIL) – with victories in singles and doubles action.
Maher pulled out a 5-7, 7-6, and 6-3 victory over Lander's Kayleigh Hahn (Dacula, Ga.) at No. 2 singles to secure the victory for Barton.
On the second day of the tournament on Saturday, Barton faces Newberry in the winner's bracket at 11:00 a.m., while Lander takes on Augusta beginning at 11:00 a.m., as well.
