Box Score BELMONT, N.C. – The Barton women's lacrosse team (4-3, 2-1) suffered their first loss of the year, 23-3, to Belmont Abbey (5-2, 2-0) Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field.
The Crusaders' Angelina Perrone (Islip Terrace, N.Y.) led all scorers with four goals as Belmont Abbey raced to a 15-1 advantage at halftime and won its fifth consecutive contest.
Barton junior attacker Kayli Ashenfelter (Stewartstown, Pa.) scored twice and freshman attacker Jordan Hare (Oswego, N.Y.) scored on a free position shot in the second half in the setback.
Thirteen players scored for the Crusaders, who held the advantage in both shots taken (42-8) and ground balls (24-14). In goal, Belmont Abbey's Elizabeth O'Hagan (Katonah, N.Y.) earned the win while junior Katherine Mattena (Salt Lake City, Utah) suffered the loss. Mattena made 10 saves on the day.
Barton will look to bounce back when the Bulldogs travel to Gaffney, S.C., to take on No. 14 Limestone Friday at 4:00 p.m., while Belmont Abbey hosts Chowan next Saturday beginning at Noon.
