Box Score BELMONT, N.C. – The Barton men's volleyball team (10-2, 6-0) moved into sole possession of first place in the Conference Carolinas standings with a 3-0 sweep of Belmont Abbey (7-9, 4-4) Saturday afternoon at the Wheeler Center.
The Bulldogs won over the Crusaders by scores of 25-17, 25-15 and 25-20 and pushed their winning streak to six matches.
Barton was led by sophomore outside hitter Adrian Iglesias (Guaynabo, PUERTO RICO) with a team-high 14 kills while senior right side hitter Angelos Mandilaris (Chalkida, GREECE) added 12 kills as the Bulldogs hit .525 for the match in the victory. Mandilaris leads the conference in hitting percentage (.416).
Belmont Abbey was led by Liam Maxwell (Manahawkin, N.J.) with 15 kills but the Crusaders lost their third straight match. Barton senior setter Oscar Fiorentino (Bayamon, PUERTO RICO) added 39 assists and his 10.64 assists per set continue to rank first in the league. Barton has also swept all six league opponents so far this year.
Barton returns home to take on St. Francis Brooklyn on Thursday beginning at 7:00 p.m., while Belmont Abbey hosts Mount Olive Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
