Box Score NEWARK, Del. – The Barton women's lacrosse team (2-2) suffered a 17-5 setback to Wilmington (Del.) (1-0) Wednesday morning at the Wildcats Athletic Complex.
Wilmington – playing in its season opener – was led by Maddie Day (New Park, Pa.) with a game-high seven goals while Lashay Ross (Hamilton, N.J.) totaled eight points – five goals and three assists – as the Wildcats opened the match with six scores and never looked back.
Barton was led by junior attacker Angelina Scarpa (Hicksville, N.Y.) and freshman attacker Samantha Diaz (Apex, N.C.) with two goals each but the Bulldogs suffered their second straight setback.
The Wildcats held advantages in both shots taken (35-21) and ground balls (27-22) while goalkeeper Tori Grubowski (Bel Air, Md.) earned the win after making 10 saves. Barton junior Katherine Mattena (Salt Lake City, Utah) suffered the loss in goal despite making 12 stops.
Barton will look to bounce back on Saturday against Catawba at home at the Electric Supply Company Field beginning at Noon. Wilmington, meanwhile, hosts Millersville (Pa.) on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
