Box Score WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's volleyball team (1-0) rallied to beat Queens University of Charlotte (2-3), 3-2, in the 2020 season opener Wednesday night at Wilson Gymnasium.
The Bulldogs won by scores of 25-20, 21-25, 18-25, 25-19 and 15-10 after overcoming a 2-1 deficit to take the fourth and fifth sets for the victory.
Barton senior right side hitter Angelos Mandilaris (Chalkida, GREECE), the two-time Conference Carolinas Offensive Player of the Year (2018-19), led the way with a match-high 29 kills while sophomore outside hitter Adrian Iglesias (Guaynabo, PUERTO RICO) added a double-double – 17 kills and 11 digs – in the victory.
Queens was led by Tristan Santoyo (Diamond Bar, Calif.) with a team-high 28 kills in the losing effort. Senior setter Oscar Fiorentino (Bayamon, PUERTO RICO) added 51 assists and nine digs for the Bulldogs, who hit .323 for the match.
Barton opens league play on Friday at 7:00 p.m., in Franklin Springs, Ga., against Emmanuel (Ga.) while Queens hosts Limestone on Saturday beginning at 4:00 p.m.
