Barton men's soccer wins third straight after pulling out triumph over Regent, 2-1

Box Score

WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's soccer team (5-1-1) made it three consecutive victories despite a close call against Regent (2-6), 2-1, Wednesday night at the Bulldogs Athletic Complex.

Barton freshman forward Immanuel Akpeme (Richmond, Va.) scored both goals for the Bulldogs – his first two scores of the season – including the match-winner just under three minutes after halftime.  Akpeme scored right in the box after controlling a goalkeeper save off a free kick from sophomore midfielder Luis Hernandez Velasco (Guadarrama, SPAIN), who was credited with the assist.

Akpeme opened the scoring just 7:03 into the match off a pass from freshman midfielder Nico Rocksien (Jersbek, GERMANY), who led Akpeme for the goal from the center just past the top of the box.  Barton also held a 22-6 advantage in shots taken in the victory.

Regent's goal came in the 41st minute when Funderburk Xzavier took a long pass from Trent Wood over the top and sped his way to the score.  Barton freshman Jacob Randolph (Metairie, La.) earned the win in goal while Emmett Hamersley took the loss for the Royals despite seven saves.

Barton returns to the field on Saturday afternoon in a Conference Carolinas showdown with Limestone beginning at 4:00 p.m.
