Barton men's volleyball clinches share of the league regular season title with 3-0 win over Lees-McRae

BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Barton men's volleyball team (21-4, 14-2) earned a share of the 2019 Conference Carolinas Regular Season Championship with a 3-0 road sweep over Lees-McRae (2-21, 0-16) Saturday afternoon at Williams Gymnasium.

The Bulldogs won by scores of 25-19, 25-20 and 25-19 and shares the conference regular season crown with King (Tenn.) for the third consecutive year.

Barton was led once again by junior right side hitter Angelos Mandilaris (Chalkida, GREECE) with 12 kills and a .417 hitting percentage.  Mandilaris – last season's offensive player of the year in the league – added to his team-leading kill total (390) while junior setter Ben Kasun (Altoona, Pa.) totaled 28 assists, seven digs, three kills and three service aces in the win.

Barton – which swept the season series from the Bobcats – also received six kills and seven digs from sophomore outside hitter Edwin Montaruli (Sugar Land, Tex.) and limited Lees-McRae to a .182 hitting percentage.

Lees-McRae's Drew Sims (Stevenson Ranch, Calif.) finished with a team-high eight kills and three digs but the Bobcats were hurt by 16 service errors while finishing winless in conference play this season and ending the year with an eight-match losing streak.

Barton steps out of conference play to take on Coker on Senior Night at Wilson Gymnasium on Tuesday beginning at 7:00 p.m., while Lees-McRae wrapped up regular season play.
