Barton women's tennis picks up road conference victory over Converse, 5-2

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Barton women's tennis team (14-7, 7-3) made it three victories in a row with a 5-2 triumph over Converse (10-10, 4-7) Thursday afternoon in Conference Carolinas action at the Valkyries Complex.

Barton was led by junior Marissa Stevenson (Kirk Michael, ISLE OF MAN) and freshman Isabella Caballero (La Paz, BOLIVIA).  Both players won at singles and doubles and the Bulldogs remained in sole possession of fifth place in the league regular season standings.

Caballero teamed with sophomore Claudia Capellades (Barcelona, SPAIN) for their 11th consecutive victory at third doubles, 6-4 over Converse's Steffi Kong (Singapore, Southeast Asia) and Martha Quattlebaum (Greenville, S.C.).

Meanwhile, Stevenson and senior Vanessa Sanoja (Bolivar, VENEZUELA) and made it five straight victories at No. 2 doubles and senior Daria Avram (Buzau, ROMANIA) triumphed at No. 1 singles for the fifth consecutive match, 6-7, 7-6 and 10-2 over Kong.

Barton wraps up the regular season with a contest against league-foe Limestone in Gaffney, S.C., on Monday afternoon beginning at 2:00 p.m., while Converse next competes in the 2019 Conference Carolinas Championship with the quarterfinal round on Friday, April 26, in Sumter, S.C.
