Barton men's volleyball advances to league championship finals with 3-0 sweep of Limestone

Box Score

WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's volleyball team (24-4), the No. 1 seed in the 2019 Conference Carolinas Championship, advanced to the final match of the league tournament with a 3-0 sweep of fifth-seeded Limestone (14-13) Wednesday night at Wilson Gymnasium.

The Bulldogs defeated the Saints by scores of 25-17, 25-16 and 25-19 and will host second-seeded King (Tenn.) (20-9) in the championship match on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.  The Tornado swept fifth-seeded North Greenville by a 3-0 score in its semifinal round match earlier in the night.

Barton – which beat Limestone for the third time this year – was led by junior right side hitter Angelos Mandilaris (Chalkida, GREECE) with a match-high 13 kills and a .619 hitting percentage while freshman outside hitter Adrian Iglesias (Guaynabo, PUERTO RICO) added nine kills in the victory.

Junior outside hitter Oscar Fiorentino (Bayamon, PUERTO RICO) totaled 34 assists for the Bulldogs, who hit .455 for the match and set a school single-season record for wins.

Limestone was led by Geraldo Rivera (Carolina, PUERTO RICO) with eight kills and six digs but the Saints were held to just a .045 hitting percentage.

Barton and King are facing each other in the league tournament championship for the second straight year while the Bulldogs are making their fourth consecutive appearance in the Conference Carolinas Championship.  Barton won the league tournament title in 2017.
