Barton women's lacrosse suffers 18-7 setback to Belmont Abbey in home finale

WILSON, N.C. – The Barton College women's lacrosse team (9-6, 6-4) fell to Belmont Abbey (9-7, 7-2) by an 18-7 score in the Bulldogs' regular season finale Saturday afternoon at Electric Supply Company Field.

The Crusaders – winners of three straight games – were led by Kylie Eastman (Mechanicsville, Va.) with six goals which increased her league-leading total to 78 scores while Marin Felsoci (Arvada, Calif.) added four goals in the victory.

With the score tied at two, Belmont Abbey took control by reeling off the next eight goals including the game-winner by Eastman with 13:33 left before halftime.  The Crusaders held the edge in shots taken (44-14) while Annie Brannon (Charlotte, N.C.) played the first half in goal for Belmont Abbey and made three saves.

For Barton, freshman midfielder Lydia Hulshizer (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) and sophomore attacker Kayli Ashenfelter (Stewartstown, Pa.) both scored twice while sophomore goalkeeper Katherine Mattena (Salt Lake City, Utah) took the loss despite totaling 16 saves.  Ashenfelter leads the squad with 62 goals on the year.

Barton will next compete in the 2019 Conference Carolinas Women's Lacrosse Championship with the quarterfinal round taking place on Monday, April 22, on the road.  Belmont Abbey, meanwhile, hosts Southern Wesleyan in its regular season finale on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
