Barton men's volleyball rolls to 3-0 win over Erskine in opening round of the league tournament

WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's volleyball team (23-4), the No. 1 seed in the 2019 Conference Carolinas Championship, swept eighth-seeded Erskine (6-21) by a 3-0 score in the quarterfinal round Saturday evening at Wilson Gymnasium.

The Bulldogs won by scores of 25-13, 25-15 and 25-20 and defeated the Flying Fleet for third time this season.  Barton entered the tournament as the league's regular season co-champions.

Barton was led by freshman outside hitter Adrian Iglesias (Guaynabo, PUERTO RICO) with a match-high 12 kills while junior right side hitter Angelos Mandilaris (Chalkida, GREECE) added nine kills – pushing his team-leading total to 409 – in the victory.

Junior setter Oscar Fiorentino (Bayamon, PUERTO RICO) totaled 24 assists for the Bulldogs, who registered 13.5 blocks in the contest and limited the Flying Fleet to just a .110 hitting percentage.  Erskine was led by Lancy Aldebol (San Juan, PUERTO RICO) with seven kills and eight digs in the losing effort.

Barton will host fifth-seeded Limestone (14-12) on Wednesday in the semifinals of the league championship at 7:30 p.m.  The other semifinal match on the Bulldogs' campus pits No. 2 King (Tenn.) (19-9) against sixth-seeded North Greenville (16-12) on Wednesday beginning at 5:00 p.m.
