Barton women's tennis falls in tight home contest to rival Mount Olive, 4-3

WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's tennis team (11-7, 4-3) suffered a close setback to rival Mount Olive (7-8, 6-2) by a 4-3 score in a Conference Carolinas match Wednesday afternoon at the Bulldogs complex.

The Trojans were able to rally to take the win after the Bulldogs earned the point in doubles' action thanks to wins at No. 2  – junior Marissa Stevenson (Kirk Michael, ISLE OF MAN) and senior Vanessa Sanoja (Bolivar, VENEZUELA) – and No. 3:  sophomore Claudia Capellades (Barcelona, SPAIN) and freshman Isabella Caballero (La Paz, BOLIVIA).

Capellades and Caballero have won nine straight doubles matches as a duo.

Mount Olive, however, was able to overcome Barton with victories at second through fifth singles.  Barton senior Daria Avram (Buzau, ROMANIA) managed a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Ece Yuksel (Zonguldak, TURKEY) at first singles while Capellades prevailed at No. 6 singles, the lone Bulldog to win twice today.

Barton will look to snap a three-match losing streak on Saturday at 2:00 p.m., at home against Lees-McRae while Mount Olive hosts North Greenville in a league contest Friday afternoon beginning at 2:00 p.m.
